Grading and GPA System

At Yale University, grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, with A being the highest grade and F indicating failure. The grading system is as follows:

  • A: 93-100
  • A-: 90-92
  • B+: 87-89
  • B: 83-86
  • B-: 80-82
  • C+: 77-79
  • C: 73-76
  • C-: 70-72
  • D: 60-69
  • F: below 60

Yale University uses a 4.0 scale to calculate grade point averages (GPAs). A 4.0 is equivalent to an A, a 3.0 to a B, and so on. The GPA is calculated by multiplying the numerical value of the grade by the number of credits for the course and then dividing by the total number of credits attempted.
