Grading and GPA System in Wilmington University

Wilmington University's grading system is an alphabetic system, with an "A" equivalent to a 4.0 on a scale of 0.00 to 4.00, an "A-" equal to 3.67, a "B+" equal to 3.33, and so on. The grading scale to determine a student's final grade of a class is also based on the following criteria:
  • Attendance: professors may assign a final grade up to one letter grade lower if a student's attendance is poor. Full attendance is required for lab-classroom courses and these courses may not have attendance penalties.
  • Participation: active participation and engagement are required for most courses. Reserved for individual projects, Capstones/Dissertations, research papers, faculty projects, and other similar assignments where assistance is unnecessary.
  • Examinations: these are often used to determine a student's final grade since they are the primary way for students to demonstrate their knowledge.
Wilmington University maintains a cumulative grade point average (GPA) for an undergraduate course ranging between 0.0 to 4.0. To graduate, students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 (or C-) in all courses. In addition, a minimum of 30 credits must be taken at Wilmington University, and a minimum grade of C (2.0) in all coursework applied to the degree.
