Grading and GPA System in this University

Utah Valley University uses a standard 4.0 grading scale for courses, which means that an A is worth 4 points, a B is worth 3 points, a C is worth 2 points, a D is worth 1 point, and an F is worth 0 points. In addition, the university allows for +/- grades to be assigned, which will affect the student’s overall GPA. At the end of each semester, students can view their grades on their transcript which is available on UVU’s online portal. The transcript will show the grade earned in each course, as well as the grade point value associated with that grade. In order to calculate a student’s GPA, the university will take the grade point value received for each course and divide that by the total number of credits attempted. This will give the student their cumulative GPA. UVU also offers a unique Pass/No Pass grading option for certain courses. If a student chooses to take a course Pass/No Pass, they will earn either a P (Pass) or an N (No Pass) on their transcript, rather than a letter grade. A P grade is considered to be equivalent to a C grade or higher, and will not affect the student’s GPA. An N grade is equivalent to an F grade, and will have a negative effect on the student’s GPA.

Utah Valley University has come a long way since its establishment in 1941. With a growing range of academic programs, a focus on student success, and practical learning opportunities, UVU is a valuable institution for both Utah residents and out-of-state students. If you are considering pursuing a degree or career in Utah, UVU might just be the perfect place to start.
