About the University

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a public university established in 1886 as the Delaware Conference Academy to provide education to people of color. Initially, it was a high school, but later in 1948, it became a state university known as Maryland State College. In the year 1970, it was renamed as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. It is a historically black university that offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs.

The university has two campuses, Princess Anne Campus and Eastern Shore Higher Education Center. The Princess Anne campus is located on 746 acres of land in Princess Anne, Maryland, while the Eastern Shore Higher Education Center is situated in Wye Mills, Maryland.
