Letter Grade Grade Point Value
A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0
C- 1.7
D+ 1.3
D 1.0
D- 0.7
F 0.0
To calculate grade point average (GPA), the grade point value for each grade is multiplied by the credit hours of the course and then divided by the total number of credit hours. KU uses a 4.0 scale for calculating GPA. For example, if a student gets an A (4.0 grade point value) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0 grade point value) in a 4-credit course, their GPA for those courses would be: (4.0 x 3 + 3.0 x 4) / 7 = 3.43
