Grading and GPA System

Marquette University uses a standard letter grade system to evaluate student performance. Each letter grade corresponds to a certain number of grade points, which are used to calculate a student's grade point average (GPA). The following grades and grade points are used at Marquette:
  • A: 4.0 grade points
  • A-: 3.7 grade points
  • B+: 3.3 grade points
  • B: 3.0 grade points
  • B-: 2.7 grade points
  • C+: 2.3 grade points
  • C: 2.0 grade points
  • C-: 1.7 grade points
  • D+: 1.3 grade points
  • D: 1.0 grade points
  • F: 0.0 grade points
To calculate a student's GPA, the number of grade points earned in each course is multiplied by the number of credits for the course. The total number of grade points earned is then divided by the total number of credits attempted to determine the student's GPA.
