Grading and GPA System at Emory

Emory University uses a four-point grading system in which grades are assigned as follows:

  • A: 4.0
  • B: 3.0
  • C: 2.0
  • D: 1.0
  • F: 0.0

Emory calculates GPAs using a standard 4.0 scale. However, in some cases, courses may be weighted, and students can earn more than 4.0 for a single course. For example, honors courses are typically weighted by an additional half point.

Emory also calculates both semester and cumulative GPAs. Semester GPAs are calculated based on the grades earned during a single semester, while cumulative GPAs are calculated based on all grades earned at the university. In addition, students can view their unofficial transcripts and calculate their GPAs using the university's online system.
